A guide will pick you up from the hotel to transport you to the base of the volcano (approximately 30 minutes). After a brief explanation by the guide, the hike to the top begins. In most parts, the terrain is quite flat, and you won’t have to climb high hills.
Upon reaching the top, you can see one of the largest craters in South America: the crater of the Sierra Negra volcano has a ten kilometers diameter and is covered with solidified lava. After a short break, the hike continues to Volcan Chico.
The adventure continues to the next stop: Volcan Chico. As you walk along the trails, you can observe how the vegetation changes from lush to desert, full of solidified lava. This walk lasts approximately one hour. Upon arrival at Volcan Chico, depending on the weather you can see the coast of Isabela and the islands Fernandina, Santiago and Pinzon.
